What i really want from the apc40

Post by VeraNova on Thu Jan 06, 2011 11:47 am

I love the apc40 but theres one feature i think i need,
and im sure theres an M4L or Bomes template out there for it, i just havnt come across it yet and am wondering if anyone else has.

right now if i want to look at a waveform to decide when im going to drop in or set up loop,
i have to either grab my mouse (god forbid),
or map the scroll feature in ableton to a nob and use that in conjunction with the track select buttons to home in on the sample.

the latter is what im currently doing,
however wouldnt it be more intuitive to hold down the shift button on the APC40, which changes all the sample launch pads to sample select pads, and shows which one you currently have selected by lighting it green, while the others are yellow.

being a user who never uses the shift button for anything this would be really awesome functionality to have.

has anyone got any workarounds like this?

I have mapped the record arm buttons for each channel to show the waveform, a simple but effective way. You can easily flip between whatever channels you are using. I would love the next version of Ableton to be able to show more than one waveform though, like Traktor.

that only affects tracks which are already playing though.
what if i want to see a specific track which im not going to play yet in an intuitive way without picking up my mouse?

Hi Mate!

To do this in Max4Live (or anything else for that matter)

1, Disable Button_Matrix
2, Read Button Press
3, Establish offset of Red Box (CLip Launch MAtrix on screen in Ableton)
4, Translate button press into clip to view
5, Focus View - Detail/Clip

The real challenge comes when you disable the button matrix the lights go out!

I agree it would be an awesome feature, therefore i'll work it into Isotonik for a future release once i've finished Octop4d

Cheers

hope you can do it! it would be amazing!

I had another idea though, although i bet theres a workaround i havnt worked out yet
scene launch buttons launch everything on that scene,
which is great if i want to use multitrack recordings so i can cut out the bass or vocals to mix into the next track.
but if i have some samples or drums loops further along that scene it will launch them too, which i wouldnt want.

apart from hitting 4-8 pads on the APC/LP at once to launch the whole multitrack at once, is there a possible workaround for this problem?

Totally possible to change scene launch so that it only launches the clips within the view of the clip launch matrix, howeverrather than sending a fire scene command you'd need to send 8 fire clip commands after reading the scene and track offset of the clip launch matrix...

only problem is if i mapped it like that then i couldnt scroll down.
so itd have to be a M4L job and i dont have a clue about that ><
